And the answer is... Roots. Because the area under the torque curve is much larger. The rotrex only has a very small chance, and this if it manages to stay all the time close to red line. You can use the power smart in a roots, a gear up than the rotrex and it still has better acceleration.
Also the Rotrex has to be in high rpm all the time, and the Tritec engine isnt really made for this type of use, not matter if some of us are reving it a lot. Watch your oil pressure gauge after 6.5k rpm.

just doesn't get it^^^^^

I can't believe people are this fucking dense

I clearly said acceleration Jan. Don't always answer the same way, track, records, etc. Apart from this, you posted while i was writing. The variables are too many in the track to compare a session with another one. Acceleration, what is faster, a Roots or a Rotrex?

RE: TVS900 Basics - Shanne - 08-17-2012 09:29 AM

The only reason Jan's power curve looks how it does is because he use's the big Rotrex. If he used the small rotrex it would look a lot different.

Its like a turbo. If you you put a HUGE turbo on a small displacement I4 it has nothing down low but it will rip your ass in the high RPM's. Put a roots on a EVO and a 35R on a EVO and find out what one is faster around the track.

Just because the tq is flat and instant doesnt mean its faster.....240lbs of flat tq is still 240lbs of flat tq. 350lbs of tq even higher in the rpm range is still 350lbs of tq. Its going to be faster.

EVERY...........SANE person knows this.............Rolleyes

RE: TVS900 Basics - Shanne - 08-17-2012 09:33 AM

acceleration will fall off in the high rpms, this is when the rotrex or the turbo lives.

Roots are awesome at making tq. We all know this, but they dont build any tq. They stay at pretty much the same tq the whole time. This leaves you with instant acceleration that will fall off, and falls of faster then you think.

HP is how hard you hit the wall, Torque is how much of the wall you take with you.
Also remember that 240lbs of instant tq downlow also means tire spin, this mean you are wasting energy.....

The Rotrex makes it a little later in the RPM this helps keep the tires from spinning.

Ok, Rotrex is better, i give up Smile This is why so many car manufacturers are using them in sport cars engines..

RE: TVS900 Basics - Speedracer1600 - 08-17-2012 12:56 PM

In a race car I would take high RPM HP and TQ, in a street car Low end tq with decent legs on HP.... Torque kills things I would not go to a 25hour endurance race banking on torque as my competitive advantage... just saying. Cant wait to here more on the TVS Jan!

They are not using them in a oem vehicle because they dont have the ability to produce them in great enough quantity at the quality that they desire.
and they dont have the budget to market to a oem.
If they did its likely you would have herd of them before Longboards car....
the rotrex will be faster. you are at higher rpm all the time when accelerating.
also the tvs could mean wheel spin. but thats meh with a good ecu.
