Woah, thank for sharing. This engine will be a good candidate for swaping in a small vehicule. (ie: this engine in a Mercedes 190E)

Ehhh its a watercraft engine

But, it's still an engine. I mean, I saw a snowmobile engine in a side-by-side, saw motocycle engine in a car. Is it possible to put a seadoo engine in something else?

The shock load (accelerating from a stop soft and hard) difference between a watercraft and an automobile or any land vehicle for that matter are massively different.

And would you like to explain how a boat engine would see more wear and load in a car than a boat?
Your aware that a Honda fit engine is based off of a outboard motor right?
Do you want to re think that yet?
And that boats are constant load at high rpm compared to a car?
Still think a car is heavy duty.
It also has to have the ability to just push torque out constantly to turn the prop in the jet that has to constantly compress water to make pressure to drive the boat.
Are you really that sure?

I had the the same thought but I read a little and water dampens more then you think. There isn't any wheel hop in water, nor traction changes. Boats and jetskis can do extended RPM because the closed loop cooling systems heat exchanger is constantly bathed in fresh water. Then the open loop systems a constantly getting cold water run throughout. And then the exhaust is cooled by a water jacket of fresh water.

Probably one in a classic Mini some where..

Once the car is rolling and no lugging the motor around I think it will survive, now if you intend to sidestep the clutch at 6k rpm im am sure there will be a flyweel buffet

I looked at replacing twin 350 motors in a 34ft boat with Chev 6.2l's diesels and was warned against this by professional boat engine installers as they don't have enough torque for a boat...... So this is exactly what Colin is saying!

TVS900 Basics - mini_racer - 08-31-2012 06:12 AM

What? You are saying a 6.2L diesel has less torque than an 5.7L gasoline engine?
Nope.

Maybe not at low revs, boats need revs to push out of the water until it displaces onto the plane......

Everyone is an expert!

Makes sense JCW, a straight engine swap would not work the whole drive train would have to be adjusted to match the lower RPM and make use of the torque.
