Aquamist HFS-3 and MINI Tank GB - LASRGUY - 09-18-2011 06:34 PM

After half a tank of 50/50 w/m the car is idling smoother than it has for a long time. I've got a small rattle in the tank assembly I need to troubleshoot. Unfortunately I just got an electronic steering wheel lock error. The wheel is locked and the car won't turn on Sad
Anyone know what to do? I have an Accessport but not a scangauge. Fortunately this happened in my driveway.

Try unplugging the car for 30 mins, it should get rid of the code. Same thing happened to be in my 328i

Thanks. Trying that now.

The only thing back there likely to rattle is possibly the level sensor connector on the pump harness up near the top of the tank.

Disconnecting the battery didn't clear the steering wheel lock fault. Damn...
The timing of this immediately after the HFS-3 install is suspicious, but it could be total coincidence. I suppose it could be related to a poorly seated ECU connector or a blown fuse. I won't have a chance to troubleshoot it until Tuesday.
May have to have it towed to the local MINI shop.

I agree the timing seems suspicious. I would double-check the taps you made to the ECU wires and verify nothing looks loose or like you said, poorly seated.

Also, what year do you have? I just checked my owner's manual and the closest thing that I see to that error is "power steering failed", a pic of a steering wheel with an exclamation next to it. I think I read somewhere that the electric steering lock "feature" was removed after 2007 models?

Good luck man, sorry the car is giving you fits now.

I have a 2007.

I know mine doesn't have it. You can turn the wheel all around even with the car off...I actually thought something was wrong with it the first time I noticed it. I don't know many modern cars that don't have some sort of electric steering lock. Came in handy though when I had to move the car once and couldn't find my keys lol...
