Dick's car is so slow in comparison to how it sounds.

If you have an AiM MXL digital dash like Jan and I, you only need one and its right in front of you and has datalogging capability. It doesn't just stop there it gets so much better if you have the GPS module you can datalog down to the foot as to how your car is running at any point of the track or road. Absolutely no clusterfuck of gauges can allow you to do that. Gets even better if you have a standalone like Jan's setup which would have to be the PERFECT setup if you are going full retard on the car.

I think right after Murphy's law comes the Inverse Law of Gauges, which states simply that "The Lap time of a given car is inversely proportional to the number of gauges attached to the dashboard, A-Pillar, or anywhere in the line of sight of the driver."

*Corollary #1: Anyone with more than 5 visible gauges is more likely than not to be running infinite lap times (or in other words, the car will never see the track).

*Corollary #2: Anyone with more than 8 visible gauges is obviously compensating for something (And corollary #1 still applies).

you are 100% correct these guys think having multiple gauges is the ticket, having an ecu that will datalog everything and having one simple system that will warn you before something goes wrong like the AIM is light years better. Trying to convince these guys of this is near impossible. What they spent on gauges they could have put an AIM system in.....

the thing that gets me is the amount of time he has spent trying .......... to tune his car. With our stand alone which has REAL FULL ACCESS he could have tuned it from one of our base maps in an hr in real time. No guessing about which cell it's in........no having to clear adaptations........ no lean spots because you can't dump enough acceleration fuel in......... no limp modes...........car will run better and faster the first time........
I can go on and on.......but I'm sure everyone gets the drift.......

I feel like this thread has gone more than mildly off topic...

Well, then it's going through it 's natural evolution to catch up with the other MINI forums...Smile

On an unrelated note, roughly how much does the AIM setup cost?

Creating a thread in R53 modifications for the AiM MXL system.

I am so waiting for the standalone to come to fruition.
