you will be fine, not only are you getting a cooler denser air intake charge, your also adding knock resistance by spraying the meth.

RE: Aquamist HFS-3 and MINI Tank GB
Woo, ECU is tapped, car started back up, so I know I didn't sever any of the wires, win.

Last up tonight is to tap the intake tube.

I got a tap kit that included a '1/8" Pipe' size tap so i'm hoping this is the npt tap. I picked up a new 11/32"s drill bit too, so i'll be able to tell if the tap is correct depending on its size once i open the kit.

So I'm hoping to jack up the front end and reach up from under the car to unbolt the pipe from the hard pipe to the fmic side soft tube. I think instructions mentioned putting a towel in there to catch debris. I'm assuming this is because its a very tight squeeze to actually remove the pipe? I would rather just remove it if i have it all unbolted, but i guess worst case i can just put the towel in there, a shop vac, and used some compressed air to blow from the firewall side to get it all onto the towel after i'm done drilling.

If I can't pick up some methanol today, i'll get it tmrw and hopefully be able to get it up and running. I'll probably just grab some distilled water today so i can prime the system after tapping etc if all goes well.

Edit: OH also, since I was tapping the ECU I had the battery disconnected for about an hour and a half or two... when I plugged it back in and drove back home.... the car felt so different. In a good way even, it definitely was relearning my driving behavior, but not only that... I didn't get any hiccups on the cold start like I normally do. I figured it may have been a fluke since the car was only off for maybe 4 hours, but I confirmed it this morning, and no jerky hiccups on the cold start. I've kinda shed light on this a little bit previously... after a cold start the first 20 seconds of driving, if you keep a constant throttle (maybe 15% through the parking lot) it will jerk violently, seeming like its not being supplied enough fuel. I was going to seafoam it again last night, but kind of glad i eliminated that variable as i would have definitely thought the seafoam cured it. I have a feeling it may come back in a little while, but for now i'm glad I didn't see it this morning. Also, yes, I've reflashed the tune and noticed no difference last week, so it wasn't that.

RE: Aquamist HFS-3 and MINI Tank GB
And I'm Tapped! I actually was looking at the wrong clamp to the rubber hose the whole time... i realized (dumbly) that theres actually the other end of the rubber hose next to the fmic. No wonder everyone was saying it was easy to access. A bit of a bish to pull off, but got it off, plugged the fmic exit, and took off the top side and stuck a shop vac hose in there (plugged microfiber towel around the hose to create a halfway decent seal). After removing the MAP sensor, I could definitely feel how much suction there actually was in the pipe. I am pretty confident I got all the chips out after drilling. The tap set I got had too short of a handle unfortunately and would hit the frame/dipstick etc when turning, so I ghetto'd it with a socket to extend it. Worked out OK.

I was surprised to see just how much oil was pooling at the bottom of the piping. I know its normal for some, but damn, hope I don't have excessive in there. When I came back from vacation, I noticed my fuel consumption has dropped off tremendously for some reason. So something is up. Also to go with it my oil has been being consumed (don't have an exact rate yet, but right now its pretty noticeable vs not having to top off ever between changes)......... =\

Later this week will be prime/initialize the system and get things running! Its essentially 95% done now.

Worlds longest Aquamist install.....goes to..............Erik Tongue

In other news, about the high oil consumption...mine drank a ton before it eventually blew, just sayin....

Motor #2....Zero consumption.

LOL yes, definitely one of the longest installs. And like I had said, I am normally one to jump on things and get it done asap with mods... but man I've been dragging this one out.

I really hope this isn't a precursor... blah. Out of warranty too, so i'd be looking for a new block.. i stumbled on one yesterday on ebay for 2500..... 30k miles. Lets just hope it doesn't resort to that.

On another note, after starting the car yesterday after tapping the hole to check for leaks, I was pointing out to my friend what i hear as the death rattle when oil isn't topped off to the full line. However, after closer listening, it wasn't coming from the timing chain area (passenger side of the engine) this time... instead it was coming from right above the cylinders. It almost sounded like it was the lifters. I wasn't low on oil, but I wasn't at the full line(which i've noticed if not, the engine really starts making noises). I hope the lifters making noise ALSO aren't a precursor to something about to happen

Welcome to the out of warranty party Smile

Can you get a video of the noise? In general, the whole R56 valvetrain is incredibly noisey...
