RE: Aquamist HFS-3 and MINI Tank GB
Just thought I'd post up a little update as more of you are about to start enjoying the joy's of meth injection
To be honest, I still haven't toyed with it as much as I would like to, car was broken for a week or so (coilpacks), and been pretty busy. I still want to move the jet location further down the inlet track, down just after the I/C. But even where it is (just after the MAP sensor) results have been outstanding. Everytime I drive the car I cannot get over at how strong it is running. I started with the .6mm jet, running pre-mixed Boost Juice (roughly 50/50 water/meth). Quickly went up to the .7mm jet and the car seemed to like it even better. I started running 100% meth, the car seemed to respond well and AFR's stayed in-check. But I went down to 75/25 for two tanks and it seemed better. And now I'm back to my own mix of 50/50. It is very hard to quantify any of the differences without a dyno, especially when all 3 seemed to work amazingly. I will venture to say that the 50/50 and 75/25 felt better than the 100% though. I don't think I will run 100% anymore, it doesn't seem to be worth it (results might be different with it being tuned to 100%...but I'm not tuned for meth yet). Plus the properties of water should not be overlooked. The latent heat of water is greater than that of methanol...meaning it can absorb more energy (read: heat) than methanol. This means it can do wonders in the cylinder in reducing combustion temps. This is especially true in a high compression, high boost motor. 110 degree ambient temps, running 10.5:1 compression, with around 20psi from my JCW turbo....it can be said there is a TON of heat that needs to be dealt with in there and water really shines in that situation. There's lots of chemistry/physics and you can go on for hours about the properties of methanol vs the properites of water. In my limited knowledge...all I know is that I'm keeping water in the mix! 2006 MINI Cooper S JCW GP (R53)--GP #1599 -RMW FUNstick Cam, RMW Shorty Header, RMW 450cc inj 2014 MINI Cooper (F56)--Midnight Black |
