Feeler Thread: Dry Carbon R53 Hood
This is a feeler thread for gauging interest on a group buy for the R53 Dry Carbon hood made by Harrison Japan. It weighs approximately 16 lbs. It is pre-pregnated carbon fiber utilizing a fiber glass skeleton.
Pictures as shown below. This will be going for $1100 + shipping. If a group buy commences, I may be able to get the price down to $800 + shipping with 5 committed buyers. These are not cheap carbon fiber hoods like Seibon and ViS which are simple carbon overlays over cheap quality fiberglass. These hoods are made from epoxy molds and vacuum packed in an autoclave to 10k psi. |

usually dry carbon isnt shinny....That is a good weight savings.

Yes it is a good weight savings, but with all the body work I have done in my life, I need to see how well they fit before even thinking about buying one.
I took a big chance with the Siebon hood, and it's total crap, doubt I will ever buy another carbon hood. Easily agitated, Half way retarded, and mentally unstable... Cant put up with it? SUCK MY RICHARD!! |

Harrison bonnets are made utilizing resin molds, which are far more expensive to make, and far superior than a simple fiberglass mold. To be frank, Seibon and ViS are not "true" carbon fiber hoods. Hell, even their S2000 hood weighs more than the stock one. Seibon and ViS hoods are sharded fiberglass hoods with a carbon overlay. |

Any kind of composite body panel is going to require some straightening before fitment. Thats just part of using them. Sometimes there is only a little that needs work but, sometimes you can spend more on labor at the body shop than the pice origanaly cost. Dosent matter who made it and how/out of what, I still have never seen a pice that was 100% comparable to OEM fit right out of the box.
Ive even got some steel replacement pices from Year One that needed work. Easily agitated, Half way retarded, and mentally unstable... Cant put up with it? SUCK MY RICHARD!! |

I don't mean to sound rude, but many of the composite body panels I have shipped from Japan have fit perfect with ZERO modification. From the Voltex GDB STi bumper and sideskirts to the CBY widebody (minus the rear quarter panels) for the AE86 Corolla. Even now I have a C-West rear half bumper for my S2000 that was, in the most literal sense, a direct bolt in. |
