Bytetronik and sprintex if fully supported by your own wallet. If it malfunctions in any way, you are accountable to pay for everything! Its kind of a win win situation really... You get new parts, and at the same time your wallet gets a lot lighter! Think of it as a weight reduction.

... I just said I trust Jan over any other MINI vendors. Don't put words in my mouth. Smile

I know YOU speak french as a first language but he was being sarcasticWink

Well, I am not really use to it to be sarcastic in english (or detect it). But in french, it's really an another story (being sarcastic brought some social problems - not my fault if I am surrounding with stupid people!). Wink

I couldn't help but reply that way given your sig. It was a thoroughly shallow post.

I don't doubt you're a decent guy. Salut!

Hopefully he will be sharing the experience on the boards soon. I don't want to mention the name here for obvious reasons but it was not the one mentioned above. It was a company that is used by a prominent vendor.

2cents

This is all true. My brother was right behind me when it failed the second time; it blew a huge cloud of smoke shifting 3-4 out of Oak Tree when the supercharger couldn't hold boost and the engine ran super rich. And his video camera was running. He's traveling on business right now; I'll post once he gets the clip together. I haven't called the rebuilder yet, but my expectations are low.

After talking to a lot of people about this, my feeling on rebuilding is that for the cost to do it right, you're better off getting a re-manufactured unit through MINI or Jan. A big issue is tolerance stacking within the unit, something that a small shop will have a hard time dealing with. You have to assemble and disassemble the unit multiple times, swapping out parts that minimize the final tolerances. A small shop will Frankenstein used parts, while an Eaton-remanufactured unit will have brand new parts.

Re: the TVS, my engine has stock internals and a stock tune, and I'm not really looking for tire-melting power. Price and reliability will be the big factors that determine whether I upgrade to the TVS if/when the reman M45 unit I ordered from Jan (thx!) breaks down. Good luck to the first adopters!

EDIT: Jan, please correct me if I misstated anything from our conversation.
