And the second part of the edit didn't stay either.... odd. Is the taper a straight one or curved to.the bottom?
I would have finished off the inside of those ports first. If that is the critical finish you are concerned with. It'll be easier to cut down the chatter with the solid block of material.

Then you could rig a simple fixture to locate and hold off of the finished ports to do your machining on the the outside. Order of operations is the trick for chatter sometimes.

At this point I would fab a fixture of two heavy duty rails that will act like a large parallel clamp straddling the ports lengthwise with bolts/studs at each end and between the ports, giving you back some of the support of the material that is gone from the outside. If there is enough room the "rails could be tied to a large angle plate or two.

The truth never hurts, unless it ought to.

If the machine guy had his shit together he would cut the inside first as its harder to do and having the exterior metal there would support everything and make it more rigid then he could really hoof it cutting the outside.
but hey what do i know.
