Cool thanks, that will make it easier to measure then.

I'm seeing very slightly lower inlet temps, but I'm still on my first tank which Jeff says he mixed at roughly 35-40% methanol / water. I should be at the point where I can try 75% in a day or two and I'll post up my numbers.

Cannot believe you're still on your first tank! Give me 5 minutes around the block in your car and I'll have it empty...lol

And you really don't need to get all accurate with the measuring lol...~80/20 will be fine

I know, and I'm seriously not driving it like an old grandma (maybe a middle-aged woman). I think part of the reason why it's taking so long is that for the first 2 weeks I had that bad jet and didn't know it. So it would never spray 100%. Ever since I got back from L.A. (this past Sun) I'm noticing it disappearing faster. But I still have 1/3 left lol.

Oh, and thank you for the kind offer but after hearing about all the issues you have with your car, I aint letting you come within 100 yards from mine! Tongue

HAHAHAHA!! BURN lol jk

he put 35-40%? i was asking about running windshield washer fluid (which is usually 40/60 - w/m) and he said it maybe too much water for a non methonal tuned ecu...

It was a verrrry rough pour. He basically poured some water into the tank and went through the initial test procedures. There was still some water in the tank (maybe 2/3 or so) and then he added some methanol to fill it up. So he thinks it was about 35-40%. Whatever it was, my car seems to run fine with it. No stumbling or loss of power. But I'm not sure how effective it is at cooling. It's effective in that it cools it under ambient, but the below-ambient numbers aren't double digit, yet.

Hmm, then maybe if i can't find methanol supplier in CT anytime soon i can start out with my windshield washer fluid (-20*F of course, with distilled water and methanol as ingredients)

Maybe a road trip to where etalj lives? That way you can try out his homebrewed beer too! lol

I also remember Jan saying he might also start shipping out some oxygenated pre-mixed meth soon.

Haha, MINI should just put me in charge of product testing Wink If something is going to fail, I will certainly make sure to find its breaking point it seems haha.

Side rambling: I hate when manufacturers produce things that can withstand what they say they can. Granted I'm definitely not running within manuf spec, but when stock cars can't even handle stock power, theres an issue with product design and quality! Funny example/story, my friend has a Mastercraft X-star wakeboarding boat that we take out a lot...and we break something on it everytime we take it out. When we take it to the dealer they go "um were you running this WOT??".....well yes, infact we were. "Well you know you shouldn't run it over 4500 rpm?".......Then why the helll make the redline at 7k then???? Lol, melted the coolant/water lines right off the motor, which are connected to the manifold with plastic fittings (how dumb!). Made them give us brass fittings now Smile

Same holds true for Jan's parts. Dyno tested, track tested, and track results proven. Parts that can withstand the repeated abuse of the track, you know they can withstand what they are designed to do, which cannot be said for most other parts!

Do not underestimate the cooling power of water! You'll probably see lower IAT's with higher meth, because it can evaporate so quickly, but water can do wonders in the combustion chamber. It's latent heat evaporation (the amount of heat it takes to vaporize it and therefore the amount of heat it absorbs) is almost double methanol's. Also, theoretically the octane level is infinite...as it cannot be combusted. On a high compression, high boost motor...water can really be your friend.

You can pick up some Boost Juice, performance shops usually carry it or you can get it online... its ~50/50. I ran a jug of it before I picked up my pure methanol. Works as it should. Windshield washer fluid, you never quite know what it is that you are running...

Is it also the water that gives the nice side-effect of "steam cleaning" the piston crown / intake valves? Or would you get that anyway with straight methanol?

Also, when running higher concentrations of meth, at what point would running too rich come into play? Or is the ECU smart enough to not let that happen?

RE: Aquamist HFS-3 and MINI Tank GB
ehhh. im sure i could make a few phone calls around and find out where to get it from. looking online yields lists from '07 or so. 3.25/gal is pretty cheap! If I could find 4/gal i'd be happy. Jan said it was $40/5gal tank.... =\

RE: Aquamist HFS-3 and MINI Tank GB
Doesn't it depend how it is tuned?

If you get meth in and have it tuned to that meth concentration then you shouldn't have any problems (unless you run out)...
