The password it just on the rom file right?

You should be able to datalog, You just wont be able to see anything in the tune, or change anything in it.

I might have missed this somewhere - how do we connect to the ECU's? Do they come with some type of com cable? I am assuming one that connects through the factory diag port?

I remember opening a computer in a chrysler and it was covered in silicon sealant (that is what it looked like). The only thing I question in heat dissipation, but that was the water proof treatment they got from the factory. I think on the vipec forum someone was asking about a board update, and vipec responded that since he had a marine one, it was covered in sealant. So, you may have a way to waterproof it.

I've seen a couple ECU's like that. The other reason they do it is also to keep people from changing the boards to be flashable by putting a epprom on them.
